Hirohiko Araki Talk Show to be Held at Osamu Tezuka Manga Museum

For the Osamu Tezuka Manga Museum’s 30th anniversary, Hirohiko Araki will speak about inspirations, memories of Tezuka, and how JoJo is made.

In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Osamu Tezuka Manga Museum, Takarazuka City will hold a talk show titled Hirohiko Araki ~The Map of Creation~” (荒木飛呂彦~創作の地図~) to help people rediscover the dreams, hopes, and appeal of manga.

As the name suggests, the guest speaker will be Hirohiko Araki, a renowned manga artist who debuted in 1980 for his one-shot Poker Under Arms after winning the “Selected Work” runner-up distinction in the 20th Tezuka Award held by Shueisha. Since then, he has continued to release works as one of the top creators in the field.

During the talk show, Araki will speak about his early experiences that inspired him to begin creating manga and how he encountered Osamu Tezuka’s works. In addition, he will discuss the thoughts he puts into the latest part (The JOJOLands) of his iconic series, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, which depicts the fate of a bloodline across generations.

Comment from Hirohiko Araki

Congratulations on the 30th anniversary of the Osamu Tezuka Manga Museum.

It’s a great honor to be invited to this commemorative talk show.

When Tezuka-sensei was still alive, he selected me for the Tezuka Award, which marked my debut as a manga artist.

I hope to share my memories of Tezuka-sensei, for whom I’ve had unwavering respect for since long ago.

This will be my first visit to Takarazuka, so I’m looking forward to the event.
